Phil Collins Still Loves His Ex

Just call him “Dr. Phil” Collins. The singer is showing other divorced couples how to maintain a great relationship with an ex, citing that he’s still best friends with his third wife, Orianne Cevey. In an interview with Britain’s Hello! magazine, Collins says he gets on with all of his exes, but has a special relationship wiith Cevey. The two split in 2007, with her receiving one of the biggest settlements in showbiz [$37.5 million].   That hefty payout doesn’t seem to have affected Collins’ affection for her: he told the magazine, “She came to the studio once, while I was recording my album. That was kind of disconcerting. I wasn't sure how I should introduce her: 'Everybody, this is my ex-wife...' That sounds so nasty. So I said, 'She is the mother of my two sons, Nicholas and Matthew, and also my best friend.' She seemed very moved by that. Man, it's really true - a shared life doesn't have to be over because you split up. I spent many years with this person. We were happy and we loved one another. But things happen. Things change. And when they do, I think it's idiotic to say, 'I hate you.'”

Collins once said that his relentless touring took its toll on his previous marriages. He’s not quite sure what the reason for this last split was. "To be very honest, Orianne and I still love each other and I don't actually know why we got divorced. After Matthew was born, we changed as a couple. We are still friends and Orianne has a new husband.”
He admits he sometimes gives his ex advice on that new husband; (along the lines, perhaps, of “Play more Phil Collins music when you’re snuggling?”). His next album, Going Back, is out Sept. 28.
