Phil Collins Retires |

After 40 years in music, Phil Collins has decided to call it quits. The singer/drummer mainly cites health issues --nerve damage in his hands, a hearing problem and a dislocated vertebra, all sustained during his long career. But besides the physical problems, Collins says he just doesn't fit the scene anymore. He told UK magazine FHM, "It's a good time to stop. I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: 'I can't be in the same business as this.' I don't really belong to that world and I don't think anyone's going to miss me. I'm much happier to write myself out of the script entirely." Collins says he's more concerned about how his physical limitations will affect his everyday life: "I'm not worried about being able to play the drums again, I'm more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids." Collins' last album -- and presumably his final one -- is Going Back, released last year.
