Phil Collins Drumming Dilemma |
| Sep 14 2010 |

Phil Collins’ new album, Going Back, is out on Sept. 28th – but there’s one thing he’s probably NOT going back to: playing the drums. Collins had an operation on his spine a couple of years ago, which seriously impeded his ability to play. He told Britain’s Daily Star, “I have to tape the sticks to my hands now. It's the only way I can play. It wasn't particularly comfortable but I managed to get the right noise and the performance I wanted. As far as I'm concerned I can't play the drums anywhere near as well as I did.” Not to worry – he still has plenty of enthusiasm for singing. Speaking about the Going Back project, which covers songs he grew up with, Collins says, "I wasn't even going to make another album. But then somebody suggested a Motown covers album and that's something I’d wanted to do my entire life. I used to sing them in my school band, but in Genesis we never did other people's material so I kind of missed out on that."
