Peter White's Tales of Christmas Tours Past

Peter White has just kicked off his A Peter White Christmas tour – and is sharing some inside dish on the popular holiday show. In an interview with Smooth Jazz News, White says he was inspired to do the tour by his friend. Dave Koz. “The whole Christmas show started with Dave. I did that for five years…and really enjoyed [those] three weeks of concentrated shows and having the Christmas spirit. When Dave told me he was going to change the band lineup, I knew I wanted to keep it going.” The first year (2003) featured saxophonist Mindi Abair, who, on the East Coast leg, pitched in in more ways than one. “We had two SUVs for us and the band,” says White. “I drove one and Mindi the other. We drove in snow the whole time; it was the most work I’ve ever done in my life.” Undaunted by that experience, Abair rejoins White on the current show: “She’s just fantastic on stage. She plays great, sings great, looks great. She’s very glamorous, but the moment she’s off stage she’s just one of the guys.” One of those “guys” is trumpeter Rick Braun, who’s also part of the show. And for the record, White no longer has to steer the bus through snow – he’s hired a driver. Start here to check the dates for A Peter White Christmas.
