Paul Taylor Returns to Catalina

Paul Taylor is set to make a homecoming to this month’s Catalina JazzTrax Festival, when he performs on Oct. 16. The saxophonist made his debut there in 1993 as part of Jeff Lorber’s band – and was noticed by Keiko Matsui, who later hired him for her group. For this appearance, however, Taylor will be joined by Marion Meadows and Michael Lington, performing as Gentlemen of the Night. He told Smooth Jazz News,
“It’s a really fun show with a sax vibe, of course. We mix it up and have a ball. On some songs, we’ll come in on the stage––it’s cool and unexpected. For example, when Marion’s playing, I might come in on the chorus or an auxiliary part, like background singers do.” Taylor adds that the name of their tour created some issues when they performed at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. Apparently, it was too suggestive and they had to temporarily change it. “We told fans, you guys are in the right place right now. Our tour is so hot they made us change our name for this performance.”
