Lionel Richie will be presented with the 2011 Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award by the Harvard Foundation today (December 5). The university is recognizing the singer for co-writing the 1985 charity single "We Are the World" and his advocacy and fundraising efforts for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Dr. S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation, said in a statement, "Richie is one of our nation's most creative musical artists who has inspired many through his artistic and philanthropic endeavors."
