Guitarist Earl Klugh turns 57 today [Sept. 16]. Born in Detroit, he was captivated by the guitar when he saw Chet Atkins perform on The Perry Como Show. Two years later, at the age of 15, he was so accomplished that he began giving lessons at a local music store. During his career, Klugh has worked with everyone from George Benson to Chick Corea. His One on One collaboration with Bob James earned him a Grammy in 1981; he’s since received 12 more nominations. His latest pet project is the annual Weekend of Jazz he throws at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs; an additional weekend is set for this November at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. Klugh currently appears on Brian Culbertson’s song, “That’s Life.”
