Chuck Loeb Talks Fourplay |

Guitarist Chuck Loeb has settled into his new gig with Fourplay, who’ve just released the album, Let’s Touch the Sky. After so many years as a solo artist, he gave SmoothViews.com some insight into how he tweaked his writing process when working with his new bandmates, Bob James, Harvey Mason and Nathan East. “When I’m writing, I always give it a lot of thought in terms of their style, and how what I’m writing is going to be interpreted by them. There are two aspects to it. One, is you want to try and incorporate their personalities. The other aspect is that you would like to bring something to challenge them with as well,” says Loeb. But he was surprised at the outcome: “The interesting thing is that, of the four things that I presented, they chose the ones that were less pigeon holed in the Fourplay sound. They wanted to take my music that was a little bit different from what theirs might have been in my interpretation. They ended up doing the more challenging of the compositions of mine that I brought in, which I thought was great. It pushed the envelope a little bit.” One of those songs, “3rd Degree,” has been garnering huge raves during their live shows.
