Alicia Keys Urges Small Steps |
| May 09 2011 |

Alicia Keys has been deeply involved in the fight to battle AIDS -- but she's reminding us that grand gestures, like establishing her Keep A Child Alive Foundation, aren't the only path to solving this global crisis. Speaking at a recent fund-raising event, the singer urged people to not become overwhelmed by the grim statistics: "You put these numbers out there - 30 million dead...these are people, not just some dot on a chart. You get these statistics and you start to lose the soul of what we're really talking about. I think people get into their head that...you have to do this huge thing for it to mean something and that's not the case. Even just you constant commitment, however small or big, that is giving life to someone. If it was your brother, or your mother, or your sister, you would say, 'No, I'm not going to allow them just to die.'" Keys is currently finishing up a new album and planning to re-release her debut, Songs In A Minor, in a special 10th anniversary edition.
